Times of Tragedy

Americans watched in horror as a mass shooter launched an assault against the innocent students and faculty of The Covenant School. This resulted in the death of three children and three adults. The shooter was a 28-year-old former student at The Covenant School, a private Christian school in Nashville, TN. She was killed after she began firing at responding officers. Law enforcement officers found writings and hand-drawn diagrams of the school which reveal that the shooting was “calculated and planned.”

Jake Bland is the Youth For Christ (YFC, www.yfc.net) president. Bland commented on the impact of such a tragedy. He highlighted the importance of providing teens with godly support through meaningful relationships during pivotal moments such as these.

“The shooting that just took place in Nashville, TN, at the Covenant School is heartbreaking beyond words,” Bland said. “We at YFC mourn with and for all who this tragedy has touched. We are praying, lamenting, and continuing to draw close and move to action. This is one of too many violent tragedies that plague our communities across the United States. Our commitment is to our communities and the young people that need us to come alongside them. We want to protect them and love them. The youth of today are our future. Our communities and young people need us to use our voices, prayers, and feet to intervene, so this violence stops. As we move to that end, we are committed to engaging young people everywhere with the love, grace, and hope of Jesus.”
