Christmas is Here

With Christmas right around the corner, many parents are out looking to purchase gifts for their children. While some parents find the act of shopping for their children to be a joy, others struggle to fulfill their child’s expectations with a tight budget. Experts recently reported that the average parent spends nearly $100 per child for Christmas presents, with 71% of parents with younger kids feeling the pressure to overspend.

We are aware of this added pressure around the holidays for parents, particularly teen parents. Our YFC Chapter in Denver, Colorado utilizes YFC’s Parent Life ministry to reach expectant and parenting teens and their children.

Second Annual Toy Drive

To best serve teen parents, YFC Denver is hosting their second annual toy drive, where local teen parents can come to choose toys for their children free of charge. The event is open to all teen parents in the community.

Cherelle Cowan, Parent Life director at YFC Denver, commented, “Research shows that 80% of Colorado teen pregnancies are unintended, and we know that this can put a huge financial burden on teen parents who might not be prepared for the Christmas season. We want to remind these teen parents that they are not alone—we are here as a resource as they go through the busy holiday season.”

YFC Denver is partnering with a foundation partner called “Play for Trey” for the toy drive, which has gathered and donated around 16,000 toys in similar toy drives. The teen parents will be able to choose their toys on December 18 at Fellowship Denver Church, with YFC Denver collecting toys throughout the month of December.

“Our staff and ministry leaders mentor and walk alongside these young people to change the outcomes of their families and seek eternal change throughout the rest of their lives and their children’s lives,” Cowan stated. “This toy drive is a wonderful way to come alongside these young parents and lend them a helping hand for the glory of God’s kingdom.”
