At 18, newly married and expecting a baby, “Kayla” was living in an unheated RV with three cats, two dogs, and a rabbit – the animals she had “rescued” and found comfort in – when she didn’t feel rescued herself. Past trauma and church hurt left her angry at God and hesitant around people, but Parent Life leaders didn’t flinch.
Angie showed up with a winter coat and boots, helped her apply for Medicaid and assistance, and gently walked with Kayla as she rehomed several animals to create a healthier environment. When a friend offered a spare room, Kayla finally stepped out of the cold into a safer home. Trust will take time, but her text after a recent Parent Life gathering said it all: “Thank you so much… I can’t believe people help like this.”
Parent Life became the one safe place she felt she could begin again.
