YFC Camp Allows Youth to Open Up about Life Challenges

August 3, 2023

story

YFC Camp

Ellie came on this trip and has struggled with her mental health for some time. She was fighting her depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts alone. She comes from a family that is very supportive of her, and when they found a note from her a few months ago, they took it very seriously and got her into therapy. Her mom has been worried because she still has not opened up to anyone besides her parents. This trip was a turning point. One of our summer interns (doing BU @ YFC this fall) attended the trip and continued growing in relationship with this girl.

Ellie opened up and shared her struggles with this leader, and they began meeting one-on-one to talk more. Ellie’s mom told another leader, “She has been different since she got back.” and also said that her daughter has been reading the Bible we sent home with students. The weight of carrying this alone is being lifted off of Ellie and being replaced with the truth of God’s word. Ellie has come to events for a long time, but it took time and the right environment for her to fully trust a leader and open up.
