Campus Life

Brandon was a high school freshman who had been coming to our Middle School Campus Life for several years, but had never been open to the Gospel. At Whitewater Express Camp he heard the Gospel again, but was still hesitant to give his heart to the Lord. As his leader met him for an appointment during camp, he could tell that something was still holding Brandon back from saying yes to Jesus. Wisely, the leader suggested that he take the day to think about what is still keeping him from saying yes to Jesus, and that they would circle back around that night to talk again.

At cabin time on the last night of camp the students were asked to raise their hand if they wanted to accept Jesus, or if they still had questions. Brandon still had questions, so that night at the bonfire his leader pulled him aside and asked him if he would like to share what is going on in his heart. Brandon opened up that when he was 10 years old he was taking care of his sick grandfather, whom he was very close to. One night his grandfather started coughing up blood, and Brandon didn’t know what to do. Eventually his dad awoke and called 911. Brandon said that when the paramedics came and took his grandfather away that was the last time he saw his grandfather.

I am Ready

Ever since that day he had been carrying the weight of his grandfather’s death and wondering if there was something else he could have done to help.  Brandon’s leader then shared with him that his grandfather’s death wasn’t his fault, and that God wasn’t mad at him. He said that Jesus is ready for him right now and wants to take that burden and his sin from him! The leader shared with Brandon that if he is ready and if he wants to, that he could pray with him right now to receive Jesus! After a thoughtful pause, Brandon said “I am ready!” Brandon and his leader prayed, hugged, and celebrated together his new life in Christ!
