Position Summary

Do you like to make confections and work with food? Do you enjoy variety and new challenges? Are you good with people? This may be the position for you! This position is a leadership position within Youth for Christ’s social enterprise: Taste of Heaven Gourmet Popcorn Shoppe.

The position of Assistant Manager is a position that requires passion, dedication, flexibility, patience, creativity, a sense of ownership for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of Taste of Heaven. This position requires times of heavy workloads and specific deadline fulfillment. There will be opportunities to be involved in direct ministry activities, as Taste of Heaven is a ministry site for Kalamazoo Youth for Christ. Building relationships with adult and teen volunteers is a key job function. This position will also oversee youth workers, developing them in their skills and mentoring them in their work ethic.

Essential Functions

Production Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of popcorn production including:
  • Making popcorn products and training volunteers regarding all popcorn items
  • Planning for and filling ongoing popcorn orders  
  • Comply with food safety regulations
  • Scheduling and implementation of production and packaging
  • Shipping and receiving
  • Inventory management / product ordering
  • Training and support of production staff
  • Ability to lead/direct/oversee volunteer groups of 10+ people
  • Ensuring a clean and safe work environment for production staff
  • Maintain clear communication with the General Manager
  • Ensure compliance of volunteer production staff pertinent to Kalamazoo YFC policies
  • Recruit and engage volunteer production workers
  • Works in partnership with Confections Production Lead
  • Ability to engage with and lead student volunteers
  • Some lifting required – up to 60 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Occasional evenings and weekends
  • Understanding of the retail point of sale system
  • Various duties as assigned by the General Manager

Retail Responsibilities:

  • Ability to run a cash register and manage cash
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent phone skills
  • Ability to deal with difficult customers
  • Stocking and inventory management

YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Position Requirements

Credentials Required & Preferred Education:

  • A passion for driving production, sales, customer service, or customer experience is a must
  • Management experience is a plus
  • Must feel a calling to work with youth
  • Must have a good record in working with children and youth; cannot be on the CPS Registry or the Sex Offender Registry
