Position Summary

City Life is a relational, holistic, community-based ministry that desires to see deep change in an urban neighborhood through the raising up of indigenous leaders from the young people in that community. Juvenile Justice Ministry strives to respond to the needs of justice-involved youth with relational programs that encourage conversation and build capacity for success in youth. Like every ministry of YFC, City Life and JJM seek to engage these young people wherever they are found as lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.

Essential Functions

Ministry Team Development (40%)

  • Training, meetings, recruiting for direct ministry, community support, and prayer volunteers
  • Build a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship with facility leaders and local court officials in order to be consistently available to young people in the juvenile justice system.

Direct Ministry with teens (in neighborhood and transition center) (35%)

  • Weekly practice of the City Life relational ministry actions (RMAs): Contacting, Building Times, Appointments, Small Groups, Programming.
  • Participation in strategic trips and events related to City Life.
  • Weekly practice of the JJM relational ministry actions (RMAs): Contacting, Building Times, Appointments, Aftercare, Programming.

Fundraising (10%)

  • Engaging a network of personal relationships (family, friends), inviting them to invest their time, talent, and treasure in the YFC Mission.
  • Communication with giving partners - thank you notes, monthly letters, etc.
  • Participating in WMYFC’s “See the Story” and “Be the Story” process

Administrative Tasks (10%)

  • Ministry and financial reports (weekly ministry reports, etc.)
  • Attendance at and preparation for meetings, events, clubs, etc. 

Personal Development (5%)

  • Participate in annual Employee Performance Evaluation
  • Trainings and individual investments (regular supervisory connection)

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps, and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression. YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Three years of relational ministry experience

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
