Position Summary

The Communications & Event Coordinator advances the mission of Greater Iowa Youth for Christ (GIYFC) by leading and executing all chapter-wide communication efforts and coordinating key development and ministry events. This role supports both internal staff and external audiences through engaging content, strategic communication channels, and memorable experiences that invite people to partner in reaching lost teens with the gospel.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Administrative/Executive Assistant experience required.
  • Work with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Must keep detailed records at all times and develop a highly efficient electronic and paper filing system.
  • Must be comfortable learning and utilizing YFC's Salesforce CRM technology on a daily basis.
  • Work on any special projects as requested with the ability to prioritize and reprioritize.
  • Relationally driven with natural ability to grow and maintain relationships with significant and influential individuals both internally and externally.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to problem solve, focus and analyze situations and data in the face of conflicting priorities and multiple demands while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to listen well, follow directions and work collaboratively with colleagues across many departments and ministries.
  • Self-initiated ability to analyze and improve on operations.
  • Must be comfortable with a high frequency of electronic communication.
  • Must have intermediate/advanced typing and computer skills including: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and general internet knowledge.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Associates degree
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite

Minimum 1 year of experience working in an office environment.Communication Strategy & Execution

  • Implement a chapter-wide communications calendar (print and digital).
  • Produce creative content for newsletters, emails, social media, brochures, and direct mail.
  • Maintain website content and support digital marketing initiatives.
  • Design promotional materials and event collateral using tools like Canva and Adobe.
  • Capture and curate internal photography and video content for campaigns and events.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication platforms.

Event Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and execute events including:
    • “See the Story” ministry tours
    • “Be the Story” fundraising gatherings
    • “Stories of Hope” fundraising events
    • Church or service club presentations
    • Volunteer and partner appreciation gatherings
  • Manage event logistics: invitations, RSVPs, venue/vendor coordination, materials, and run-of-show rehearsals.
  • Oversee on-site registration and data entry into CRM: Bloomerang.
  • Organize and lead event follow-up efforts with staff, volunteers, and board members.

Ministry Partner Engagement

  • Assist development staff with scheduling meetings with ministry partners and donors.
  • Coordinate call/email/text communications to confirm appointments.
  • Maintain contact records and communication notes in Bloomerang.
  • Contribute to donor appreciation efforts: thank-you notes, calls, and personalized messages.

Grant Writing & Reporting

  • Assist in the research, writing, and submission of grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and other funders.
  • Maintain an organized system for tracking deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with the development team to gather data, stories, and content for grant applications and reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on grant-funded initiatives.

Administrative & Technical Support

  • Attend and participate in development meetings and all-staff events.
  • Support grant-writing and fundraising campaigns as needed.
  • Track communication and engagement metrics across platforms.
  • Provide general project management support using tools like Trello or Microsoft Teams.
