Position Summary

Position Summary

The part time City Life Cohort Director is a position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, and strong communication skills. The City Life Cohort Director must embrace and build a team that embodies YFC’s Cultural Attributes: Christ-centered, enduring humility, relentless trust, courageous faithfulness, joyful camaraderie, and kingdom inspired diversity. The City Life Cohort Director will seek to implement relational ministry actions to develop Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with young people within the context of their YFC ministry model.

Essential Functions

Ministry Team Development (15%)

  •  Alongside Executive Director - recruit, train, and maintain volunteer ministry leader team in accordance with the processes found in the Knowledge Base
  •  Help cultivate a strong connection between youth pastors and young people within their neighborhoods
  • Provide training materials and ministry site standards for ministry leaders 
  • Develop healthy 3 Story teams for each ministry site
  • Establish necessary support and guidelines to ensure healthy and growing ministry at all sites
  • Be an advocate in the community for young people 
  • Report progress and ministry updates to leadership

Relational Ministry Action Development (15%)

  • The City Life Director will be responsible for managing, facilitating and serving in the Relational Ministry Actions (RMAs) at their assigned ministry sites 
  • Lead the 3 Story implementation at their site in accomplishing the standards outlined in the RMAs found in the Knowledge Base
  • Establish and develop programming materials
  • Train and evaluate ministry site leaders in the implementation of curriculum materials
  • Advise supervisor of any issues at the ministry site that affect RMA development or implementation

Ministry Data Reporting (15%)

  • Keep records of all ministry actions and update ministry data monthly via Impact Database

Ministry Partner Development (50%)

  • Work alongside Executive Director to identify youth pastors interested in hosting City Life Ministry at their churches. 
  • Train, resource, and empower cohorts of youth ministry leaders to engage young people in their neighborhoods in Authentic Christ Sharing Relationships 
  • Under Executive Director’s direction, develop and implement a plan to invite ministry partners to share in the prayer, communication and financial support of the ministry 

Personal Development (5%)

  • Work alongside Executive Director to identify youth pastors interested in hosting City Life Ministry at their churches. 
  • Train, resource, and empower cohorts of youth ministry leaders to engage young people in their neighborhoods in Authentic Christ Sharing Relationships 
  • Under Executive Director’s direction, develop and implement a plan to invite ministry partners to share in the prayer, communication and financial support of the ministry 

Primary and Secondary Steward Responsibilities

Employees may be assigned a Primary Steward of any of the following:  Volunteer(s), Donor(s), Vendor(s), Chapter(s), and Process, Standard and Best Practices (PSBPs).

All Employees are assigned the role of Secondary Steward, which plays a supporting role to the Primary Steward to serve a chapter in a specific way, for a specific timeframe as determined by the Primary Steward. Secondary Stewards can be assigned to focus on specific management issues like YFC compliance, legal, risk, strategic planning, fund development coaching, staff development coaching, new ministry site development, process stewardship or a variety of other equipping roles.

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel. As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression. YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

  • Embraces the vision, mission and Statement of Faith of Youth for Christ
  • Participate in applicable YFC trainings, Leader Journey System and Credentialing/Licensing Processes 
  • Understands YFC’s 5 Essentials and leads through this model
  • Self-Motivator
  • Strong moral character and of good repute
  • Connect well with youth
  • Well-spoken in front of youth and adults
  • Manage a team of diverse volunteers
  • Honors and pursues diversity of gifts, cultures and ethnicities

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Three years of ministry experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) 

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Budget Responsibilities

Keep spending within the parameters of the monthly City Life Budget, and submit all expense reports for reimbursement at the end of every month.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate orally with students, families, Church leaders, community partners, supervision, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.  
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force may be required. Good manual dexterity required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies.
  • The job is performed both remotely, and within churches, parks, homes, schools, etc.

Travel Requirements

This position will require overnight travel one to two times per year.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position will supervise volunteer mentors and church partners.
