Position Summary

The Campus Life Area Director role is a position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, fundraising capability, the ability to work with and through other people, and strong communication skills. S/he must embrace and build a team that embodies Lane County YFC's Core Values: Relational evangelism, Teachability, Follow Through, Healthy Conflict, Balance of work and rest, healthy marriage or singleness, and Team centric ministry. S/he will seek to implement regular relational ministry actions (RMA's) to develop Authentic Christ-Sharing relationships with young people in the context of the YFC model.

An Area Director is a key part of the leadership team. S/he is primarily responsible for, but not limited to, overseeing ministry in a specific geographical area encompassing multiple ministry sites for the chapter. This includes oversight of ministry sites, shepherding through the supervision of the ministry staff and their leadership development, resourcing the staff as they implement effective ministry, development of future ministry sites, community collaboration and fund development.

Essential Functions

Ministry Health

  • Direct and guide the ministry team in your area through the 5 Essentials and National Ministry best practices
  • Manage current ministry staff team through individual supervision and regular area staff meetings
  • Work collaboratively with any operational Community Support Team (CST) to advance ministry in the community
  • Develop current ministry sites health and growth
  • Regularly evaluate ministry effectiveness while helping sites and site leaders grow
  • Volunteer oversight for your area; work with site directors to develop a recruiting, training and retention plan for volunteers and volunteer teams.
  • Potentially work with other area directors and oversight of volunteer intake process
  • Build deep community relationships in and around current ministry sites.
  • Provide ministry resources for trips and events while spearheading events or assist during these events
  • Consistently involved in local ministry with lost teens
  • Some administrative functions involved (reporting, scheduling, etc.)

Ministry Growth

  • Work with the Ministry Director in developing vision for ministry expansion in your area
  • Assist in laying the foundation for effective ministry in that particular new ministry site
  • Assist in the hiring process of staff for each ministry site
  • Support and train new ministry staff in community development and ministry in their first year
  • Build a strategic community collaboration plan for new sites

Leadership Development

  • Build a culture of people development within the chapter
  • Invest in direct reports’ growth and development
  • Aid new ministry staff in their journey through the initial YFC onboarding process
  • Participate in the wider movement for your continued personal growth (regionally & nationally)
  • Oversight of any internship programs for investment in raising up young leaders Donor Development
  • Be involved in all team-oriented fundraising efforts
  • Win, keep and lift donors
  • Walk with the Ministry Director and CST in the process of pursuing significant donors
  • Develop local support to assist with current and new ministry sites
  • Assist site directors in developing local community involvement

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel. As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression.

YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Primary and Secondary Steward Responsibilities

Employees may be assigned a Primary Steward of any of the following: Volunteer(s), Donor(s), Vendor(s), Chapter(s), Processes, Standards and Best Practices (PSBPs). All Employees are assigned the role of Secondary Steward, which plays a supporting role to the Primary Steward to serve a chapter in a specific way, for a specific timeframe as determined by the Primary Steward. Secondary Stewards can be assigned to focus on specific management issues like YFC compliance, legal, risk, strategic planning, fund development coaching, staff development coaching, new ministry site development, process stewardship or a variety of other equipping roles.

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

CAMPUS LIFE AREA DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

To build relationships with lost students for the purpose of sharing the gospel and seeing them become lifelong followers of Christ while connecting them with a local church 

A) STUDENT MINISTRY

Campus Life ministry combines healthy relationships with creative programs to share the life changing message of Jesus with lost students and connect them with a local church. Campus Life seeks to engage these young people wherever they are found as lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. Our staff are charged with the responsibility of consistently pursuing lost kids & engaging them in life-long relationships with Jesus and connecting them to a local church. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. Therefore, our directors are charged to accurately handle Biblical truth. 

The Campus Life Staff’s student ministry assignment is summed up in the “Relational Ministry Actions” or RMAs (See descriptions on page 3):

 

·     Contacting Students 

At least 6-8 hrs/week 

 

·       Building Times 

AT LEAST ONE PER WEEK THROUGH MAY 3hrs/WEEK

 

·     Appointments / Hang Outs

WORK AND PRAY FOR AT LEAST ONE PER WEEK 2 HRS/WEEK

 

·     Campus Life Weekly Club 

one club per WEEK October through may PLUS PREP 4 hrs/WEEK

 

·       Trips (extended building times) 

AS NEEDED

 

B)    RAISE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Campus Life Staff are responsible for raising financial support for their salary and program expenses beyond the budgeted allotment from net positive events (ie: All Nighter). If hired in a partner youth staff role at a church, Youth For Christ will explore the possibility of matching salaries with the partnering church for up to one year from the date of hire. The Campus Life Staff person is responsible for actively raising financial support to fund the program in the community. Campus Life programs must be self-sustaining. Programs will be canceled or changed to a volunteer led site if support is not raised to meet the required salary for the director. Raising financial support includes, but is not limited to the following:

·       Developing & maintaining donor relationships by spending at least one hour a week doing donor development.

·       Raising awareness through church presentations and partnerships.

·       Writing a monthly newsletter to the program supporters.

 

C)     DEVELOP COMMUNITY SUPPORT

A sustainable Campus Life program needs not only a solid staff member, but a team of leaders that get behind the mission of YFC. This allows us to reach as many lost students as possible all while developing a like-minded missional community. Developing community support includes, but is not limited to the following:

·       Strategically recruit & develop volunteer leaders to reach young people.

·       Partner and work together with local churches and agencies.

·       Develop a prayer team to intercede on behalf of the area’s Campus Life program.

 

D)    EXPAND OUTREACH 

 Pursue conversations with community members, sharing the mission of YFC in your community and the need for more schools to be reached 

 Work toward finding staff, partnerships, or other like-minded partners to effectively expand the gospel reach to all the middle and high schools in Springfield 

 

E)      COACHING 

 Oversee the development and training of staff in your area 

 Coach staff in your area and meet weekly to discuss: RMAs, ministry goals, volunteer team development, personal funding goals, and weekly events/club 

 Foster a team culture from the staff in your area and work cooperatively toward ministry area development

 

F)    PARTICIPATE IN COUNTY WIDE EVENTS AND MEETINGS

We operate a large ministry site here in Lane County. We find that working together on many projects produces wonderful results as we come together as one body to accomplish the mission of YFC. The following are the required events and meetings as of March 2023. This list is in addition to your weekly club schedule you develop and is subject to change.

·       Campus Life “All/Late Nighter” (2 Times A Year – typically fall and winter) 

We bring in about 350 middle school students and 150 high school students. HS and MS staff are required to attend and work this event.

·       Campus Life Camp (2 weeks per summer)

We host a middle school and high school camp each summer. All HS and MS staff are required to bring kids to their respective camp’s age group, and work the week that is not their club age group.

·       YFC Golf Tournament General Operations Fundraiser (typically in October)

All staff are asked to recruit sponsors and/or foursomes to play the event. All staff are also required to work the event day.

·       YFC Dinner Auction General Operations Fundraiser (typically in spring)

All staff are asked to seek donations as well as table sponsors. All staff are required to work the day before, day of, and day after the auction.

·       “YFC 3 DAY”

All staff are required to attend our annual staff planning and team building retreat. This typically happens in the spring. 

·       Weekly Staff Bible Study/Meetings

All staff are required to attend our weekly staff meeting, bible study, and divisional meeting. All these meetings happen most Thursday mornings. Staff are generally asked to block out their schedule for meetings from 9:00am – NOON on Thursdays (8:00am 11:30AM for High School Staff). There are some exceptions for our part time staff.
