Position Summary

Essential Functions

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard, to make, educate, and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

As an employee of Youth for Christ and administer of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Be a faithful ambassador for Christ and JVYFC by always conducting yourself in a Christian manner whether at work, home, or in public as defined by the YFC Leadership Standards document.
  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom through prayer and meditation for the organization as a whole, as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion, and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Participate in staff prayer and devotional times.
  • Devote yourself to regular personal devotional time and prayer.

General Responsibilities

As an employee of James Valley Youth For Christ, you are expected to:

  • Follow all policies and procedures established by the local board, Ex. Dir. and/or regional and national offices.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
  • Participate in all fundraising events and be responsible for personally raising no less than 10% of your annual salary.
  • Participate in affective communication with donors by writing updates and thank you letters.
  • Attend local, regional, or national training and conference events as directed by Ex. Dir.
  • Assist with day-to-day care of JVYFC properties (as physically able), which include but not limited to:
    • Cleaning and organizing
    • Minor maintenance and upkeep
    • Other projects (where skills allow)
  • Assist with miscellaneous office duties such as answering phones, taking messages, mailings, and filing.
  • Assist with facility rental requests and key management.

Specific Responsibilities / Duties

In the role of JVYFC's Bookkeeper, you will be expected to:

  • Direct daily, monthly, and yearly affairs of financial bookkeeping which include but are not limited to:
    • Pick up mail from post office and center
    • Process, post and receipt donations
    • Keep donor data up to date
    • Make bank deposits of donations
    • Reconcile bank statements
    • Manage cash flow and bank/cash accounts
    • Process, post and pay bills
    • Back up computer files to flash drives
    • Assist Ex. Dir. in setting policy and procedure for office/bookkeeping protocols.
    • Keep files and office in an orderly fashion
    • Process, post and record payroll, employee benefits and taxes
    • Manage Direct Deposit accounts, both in-house and with bank
    • Post financial data to YFC national databases
    • Prepare monthly finance reports for committee/board meetings
    • Prepare and file/pay by deadline, all required local, state and federal tax forms
    • Prepare and send year-end tax statements to donors as required or requested
    • Prepare yearly preliminary income/expense budget
    • Compile data for fiscal year compilation
    • Prepare and distribute W-2 forms to employees
    • Request and collect required employee documents
    • Track income/expenses for ministry/student trips
    • Look for new and creative ways to make JVYFC office run more effectively

Position Requirements

Preferred knowledge & skills in nonprofit bookkeeping

Required Education: High school diploma or GED

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fundraising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
