Position Summary

Waypoint Church in partnership with Missoula Youth For Christ, located in Missoula, MT is seeking a full time youth pastor/Campus Life Director to design, coordinate and oversee a comprehensive youth ministry program focused on building Christian discipleship. Areas of focus include group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach. This position will also partner with the local Youth for Christ to provide direct, on-campus ministry at a nearby public high school. We are looking for an engaging spiritual leader who is a role model with a strong biblical background.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as youth advocate - On a regular basis, educating and enlightening the congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of the youth in the local church and community.
  • Collaborate with church leaders in planning, developing and implementing all aspects of a balanced and engaging youth ministry.
  • Research resources and make recommendations for developing the youth ministry programming.
  • Pursue and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities within youth ministry practices.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to work in all aspects of youth ministry.
  • Ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth participation.
  • Manage and compile youth ministry budget for reporting purposes.

Essential Functions/Job Duties

  • Communicate with church leadership, staff, parents and congregation in a timely manner utilizing available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.).
  • Maintain a flexible schedule that allows for approved and scheduled sit visits with youth in a variety of ways (i.e., attendance at extracurricular activities, times of crisis, etc.).
  • Collaborate with church in a cohesive and open team environment.
  • Mentor youth and provide counseling and spiritual direction that aligns with Waypoint’s Statement of Faith, church ministry strategy and plans.
  • Preach and teach biblically sound sermons and Bible studies as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
  • Provide oversight and direct supervision to volunteer youth leaders, youth ministry leaders and other staff and volunteers.
  • Perform other ministry tasks as assigned by the Lead Pastor.
  • Regular and reliable church attendance is required in performance of job.

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.

Additionally, YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA. As such, the following additional responsibilities of a spiritual nature will apply to this position:

  • Perform sacramental functions such as the taking of communion and leading times of corporate prayer, confession and praise.
  • Perform and lead religious ceremonies such as weddings, baptism and funerals when called upon by staff and other members of the YFC community.

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • An evident personal and growing relationship with God.
  • Worship team experience, including ability to play an instrument.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills and computer skills

Prefer 2 to 4 years of experience in youth mentoring, youth counseling, youth development plus the following job-related experience:

  • Developing, organizing and effectively managing youth programs.
  • Effectively working with children, teenagers, young adults and diverse groups.
  • Exhibit a personal and growing relationship with God.
  • Experience and training related to:
    • Organizing volunteer efforts
    • Public relations
    • Leadership skills
    • Exercising discretion with confidential information
    • Program/meeting planning
  • Coordinating activities and compiling and/or disseminating information related to youth programs/events, civic activities, meeting/travel arrangements, etc.
  • Leading a worship team, including ability to play an instrument (preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills and computer skills.
  • Experience interacting, advising and communicating effectively.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, editing and/or extracting information from various sources including policies and procedures, program guidelines, manuals, reports, contacts, invoices and correspondence.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies, Pastoral Studies or another related field
  • 2 to 4 years of experience developing, organizing and effectively managing youth programs effectively working with children, teenagers, young adults and diverse groups.
