Position Summary

The National Chapter Advancement Specialist (NCAS) serves a critical role in the advancement of the mission of YFC. This position requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, as well as strong communication and management skills.


The NCAS is the point person from the National Service Center (NSC) responsible for allocating the necessary resources and subject-matter experts (secondary stewards) from across the movement of YFC to assist a chapter in their progress towards continual improvement, health, and growth. The National Chapter Advancement Specialist is responsible for helping a local chapter implement all our national processes, standards and best practices and helping to steward a culture where Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with young people are advanced across the chapter. This NCAS will also assist Launch chapters (chapter run directly by the NSC) in their progression towards Chartered chapter status.

Essential Functions

As the primary steward (go-to person) for a local chapter, the NCAS must be aware of the attributes that make a successful chapter so that s/he can guide them in the development of a culture of continual improvement. S/he must have a working knowledge on all the processes in the Knowledge Base and either be able to coach a chapter through these processes or be able to assign the appropriate Secondary Steward. S/he also plays an important role in the successful operation and function of a chapter’s Affinity Group by working as the group facilitator to see that group learning and participation is maximized.


Managing the Chapter Progression Process for Each Chapter (40%):

  • Managing each chapter’s annual self-assessment process through their
  • use of the Chapter Progression Evaluation Tool.
  • Stewarding each chapter’s implementation of the processes.
  • Developing the annual Chapter Action Letter for each chapter.
  • Managing a chapter’s Movement Assessment every five years.
  • Managing the Chapter Action Plan process for each chapter.
  • Stewarding each chapter through the development and implementation
  • of their local strategic plan in alignment with the national strategic plan.
  • Working with Executive Directors and Advisory Boards to make decisions on the move from Launch (NSC-run) to Charter chapter status and assist in all aspects of that move.
  • Working with Executive Directors to move essential services and systems away from the NSC and towards local governance.
  • Meeting in person with each chapter once every two calendar years.

Managing the Affinity Group Process (20%):

  • Connects Affinity Group facilitators and the Leader Formation
  • Department to ensure that the right teaching content and topics are brought to their chapters in an Affinity Group in line with the group’s progression goals and objectives.
  • Ensures chapter engagement, preparation, and attendance for virtual Affinity Group meetings, as well as bi-annual face to face meetings.
  • Facilitates monthly Affinity calls and yearly Affinity Group retreats.

Managing Communication and Coordination with Chapters (20%):

  • The NCAS helps ensure good two-way communication from the chapters and NSC. Being the face of this communication loop is an essential part of maintaining the relational equity between the national office and the field.

Problem Solving and Transition Management (20%):

  • When unforeseen challenges arise at the chapter level, the NCAS partners with the local Executive Director and board through these times, either directly or by brokering the necessary support services at the NSC or by assigning a Secondary Steward with expertise in the chapter’s area of need.

Primary and Secondary Steward Responsibilities:

Employees may be assigned a Primary Steward of any of the following:

  • Volunteer(s)
  • Donor(s)
  • Vendor(s)
  • Chapter(s)
  • Process, Standard and Best Practices (PSBPs)

Specific assignments for the Primary Steward will be listed in the Task List.


All YFC/USA employees may also be assigned the role of Secondary Steward, which plays a supporting role to the Primary Steward to serve a chapter in a specific way, for a specific timeframe as determined by the Primary Steward. Secondary Stewards can be assigned to focus on specific management issues like YFC compliance, legal, risk, strategic planning, fund development coaching, staff development coaching, new ministry site

development, process stewardship or a variety of other equipping roles.

Spiritual Responsibilities:

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life- long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.


As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression.

Additionally, YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Fundraising Responsibilities:

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.


YFC/USA may attach a minimum fundraising goal to certain projects, activities, departments, or individuals.

Budget Responsibilities:

A Budget Manager is responsible to align all financial resources to the YFC/USA strategic plan in accordance with the delegation and direction of the Division Head. The Budget Manager is responsible for coding, approval and financial decision-making for their assigned Division, Department and/or Action Plan budget. When a budget is overfunded or underfunded, the Budget Manager is responsible to course correct though the MCCR process.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  • 4+ years of experience leading or developing a team, or projects, or advising/consulting with various groups.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for day-to-day conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents. Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, hand held devices, copy machine, and computer printer.


No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force may be required. Good manual dexterity required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies.


The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer and phone are normal.

Travel Requirements:

  • 30 – 40 days per year
