Position Summary

The Ministry Site and Community Leader is a position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, and strong communication skills. S/he must embrace and build a team that embodies YFC’s Cultural Attributes: Christ-centered, enduring humility, relentless trust, courageous faithfulness, joyful camaraderie, and kingdom inspired diversity. S/he will seek to implement relational ministry actions to develop Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with young people within the context of their YFC ministry model.

The Leader is to develop and lead outreach ministry on the high school campus in the Akron community. This position focuses on reaching 11-19 year olds with the Gospel through Christ-sharing relationships, the development and empowerment of a team of volunteer ministry leaders and student leaders, along with the implementation of YFC ministry processes and creation of strategy to establish a fruitful and sustainable Campus Life ministry.

Position Essential Functions

Implement YFC’s Ministry Essentials

  • Meet with kids at ministry sites, develop partnerships in the community, pray for kids and communities, all to meet the goals of the ministry.

Recruit and Develop Volunteer Ministry Leaders

  • Develop a team of leaders that join in developing Christ-sharing relationships with lost youth at the ministry site and in the community.

Position Responsibilities (based on an average week)

Ministry Health (5-6 hrs/wk)

  • Build ministry site / team culture that embodies YFC ministry essentials
  • Lead monthly ministry team meetings and ministry communication to unify team and ministry efforts
  • Supervise the optimal # of volunteer ministry and student leaders
  • Develop ministry site and team goals
  • Create systems that coordinate healthy ministry
  • Keep Area Director aware of ministry health, progress and challenges
  • Oversight of ministry oriented Trips, Camps and Events
  • Model ministry by remaining involved with teens
  • Develop a missional community within a Community Support Team and student leaders

Ministry Growth (3-4 hrs/wk)

  • Develop long term vision for ministry in coordination with Area Director
  • Develop new potential ministry possibilities within Akron
  • Develop partnerships with churches and donors
  • Lead the process for identifying new volunteers and student leaders 

Personal, Tean and Student Growth (3-4 hrs/wk)

  • Abide in Jesus
  • Book reading for personal and spiritual development
  • Attend YFC staff trainings (3-4 / yr) and conferences (1 / yr)
  • Complete the YFC Staff Training Blueprint
  • Leadership Development
  • Build a culture of leadership development within ministry site, volunteer leaders and Community Support Team
  • Oversight of young leader investment in raising up young student leaders

Administration (3-4 hrs/wk)

  • Provide and input regular weekly / monthly info on ministry site, student and volunteer reports in proper formats to Area Director
  • Schedule weekly / monthly time for planning meetings, activities, trainings and events
  • Provide writing articles for social media and/or quarterly chapter newsletters as requested

Community Relations (1-2 hrs/wk)

  • Promote YFC and Campus Life within the community
  • Develop relationships with students, parents, school administrators and teachers, churches and businesses

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression. YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

  • Pass YFC background check and sign and agree with YFC Life of a Leader

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • 4 Year Bachelor’s Degree prefered
  • 1-3 years of student ministry experience

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Travel Requirements and Benefit

Less than 25% of travel time is expected for the position, where the travel occurs, such as locally or in the area. Very occasional travel is overnight for an event or camp. All travel will be reimbursed as mileage x IRS allowable rate.
