Position Summary

The Development Specialist will ensure the successful cultivation and strengthening of prospective and current donors relationships and expansion of the donor pipeline.  They will also be responsible for the execution of administrative responsibilities within the Development Department / Mission Investment Division of YFC USA. 

Essential Functions

  • Donor Interaction and Prospecting:
    • Professional discretion when managing confidential information.  
    • Thank and engage donors on a daily basis on behalf of YFC USA.  
    • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals through engagement with YFC USA.  
    • Execution of donor communications and activities to encourage deeper levels of partnership, tracking all activities in Salesforce. 
    • Assist with research, reporting and communication tasks to build and expand partner portfolios.   
    • Identification and outreach to prospective partners.   
    • Communicate with donors when there is a question or concern about their giving.  
  • Event Planning:
    • Aid Development Lead and VP of Mission Investment in any aspect of preparing for the Champions fundraising event, Champions Dinners, and Vision Gatherings. 
    • Attend meetings, special events and provide support where needed.  
  • General Department Administration:
    • Maintain donor database, files and documentation. 
    • Work with development and accounting to reconcile and track pledge documentation and contributions. 
    • Aid in documenting processes and procedures 
    • Become proficient in Salesforce and iWave to run reports, enter data, make changes, assess donor capacity, etc. 
    • Assist in donor communications execution and follow-up. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Support of the National Service Center and Strategic Plan:
    • Contribute to cross-departmental work as assigned. 
    • Abide by all deadlines and procedures. 
    • Complete routine tasks (task list documents, use of systems, performance review, budget processes etc.) 
    • Complete 12-month New Leader Cohort training.

Additionally, YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.  

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills:

Willing to demonstrate and/or possesses the following:

Credentials Required & Preferred Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent 
  • Minimum three years administrative experience 
  • Minimum three years development/fundraising department experience 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.  Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for day-to-day conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents. Occasional exertion of lifting up to 50 lbs. Good manual dexterity required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies. Extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer and phone are normal. Ability to stand on your feet for at least 8 hours a day. 

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 20% overnight travel
