Position Summary

Position Summary

Working directly under the Executive Director, the Development Director guides the overall fund development strategy and implementation for Greater Omaha YFC. The Development Director helps build the culture of biblical stewardship and supervises the Development team comprised of the Communications & Event Coordinators and Media Specialist. The Development Director identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with corporations, foundations, individuals, and other key personnel. This position also fosters positive and enduring community and donor relationships that produce reciprocal benefits.  

Essential Functions

Fund Development Strategy 

  • Work in cooperation with the Executive Director to design and implement a comprehensive development plan to generate contributions/donations and foster community engagement.  
  • Analyze and examine current GOYFC and YFC strategies and standards. Work with Development team and all staff to create and design a Fund Development Strategy utilizing See The Story/Be The Story model to fund the current ministry areas, future city-wide growth, sustainability, and 3/5 year vision to grow 1,000 Ministry Leaders in Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with 5,000 lost youth. This strategy should include Major Gift Partner cultivation, monthly gift partner cultivation, Core, “impulse” or sporadic partner engagement and staff training on biblical stewardship and fund development. 
  • Implementation of fund development strategy working with the Area Directors, Communications & Event coordinators.   

Major Gift Partners (MGP) 

  • Work with Executive Director to create and implement a strategy for care of current Major Gift Partners. 
  • Coordinate annual events for MGP relationship building as well as venues to introduce new MGP prospects to YFC ministry. 
  • Manage a portfolio of MGP prospects to secure donations, securities, bequests, and gifts-in-kind. 
  • Identify, research, and evaluate individuals to determine capacity and interest to provide major and planned gifts.  

Other Giving Partners (Core, Impulse, Lapsed, Monthly, Corporate) 

  • Work with the Executive Director in creating and implementing a plan to communicate regularly with gift partners, develop new avenues of communication to tell our story to a broader audience, and increase monthly gift partner program. 
  • Participate in organizational and community events and donor prospect tours (See The Story/Be The Story) to solicit financial support in order to reach financial development goals.  
  • Seek and obtain contributions to maximize financial support for ministry programs throughout the city.  
  • Participates in coordinating corporate and foundation giving.  

Communication/Internal-External 

  • Oversee the work of the Communications & Marketing Coordinator in developing a strategy for communication to existing giving partners and the general public. 
  • Work with the Communications & Marketing Coordinator to create an internal communications plan to help tell YFC’s story to our staff, volunteers and board members. 
  • Work with Executive Director and team to compose donor request letters and basic grant proposals.  

 

Events 

  • Ensure that GOYFC fund development events (Be the Story, Golf Classic, Top Golf) are carried out with excellence, communicating the core messages of YFC, and have a recruitment and follow up strategy to “win” new partners and “lift” current giving partners.  

 

Overall 

  • Serve as a role model in carrying out the YFC mission, vision, and cultural attributes. 
  • Direct all activities towards the fulfillment of YFC mission.  
  • Maintain and grow an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and ethical behavior. 
  • Support members of the Executive team and their work. Help complete chapter initiatives and goals and lead the implementation of the plan in Fund Development areas.  
  • Maintain comprehensive files and records in CRM on prospects and donors

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills
  • Ability to oversee, supervise and train other individuals
  • Project management experience
  • Flexibility, adaptability, attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple tasks under deadlines are required.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • BA in Marketing, Communications, Projects or Business or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience in the area of development is strongly preferred
  • Marketing experience preferred

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/GOYFC. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
