Position Summary

Position Summary

As a Communications Specialist at YFC USA, you will be responsible for expertly delivering internal communication tasks and campaigns in a timely and cost-effective manner. You will utilize your excellent organizational skills and ability to inspire others to effectively communicate with all prioritized audiences and the greater movement of YFC USA. Your primary focus will be on smoothly coordinating and facilitating all assigned activities within the Communications Department. You will be a key member of the team, using your expertise to ensure that all communication efforts are successful and meet the needs of the organization. This is a unique opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a positive impact within a dynamic and mission-driven organization.

Essential Functions

Communication and Internal Engagement:

  • Developing and executing comprehensive communication plans to support the organization's goals and objectives among internal stakeholders
  • Writing and editing internal communications materials, such as newsletters, email updates, and announcements, to effectively communicate key messages and information to employees
  • As assigned, facilitating the organization's internal media presence and online reputation
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leadership, to develop and execute communication campaigns
  • Maintain and enhance the YFC Store through oversite of all aspects of the store's operations, including inventory management, customer service, and sales, to ensure all YFC leaders and students represent our brand in public.
  • Maintain and enhance YFC’s use of Canva through oversite of the system, the design and creation of all digital and print materials, including presentations, social media graphics, and connection with local chapter communication specialists, using the Canva platform to ensure brand consistency and high-quality design output.
  • Researching, analyzing, and documenting internal trends and feedback to inform communication strategies
  • Providing guidance and support to other team members and stakeholders on internal communication-related issues
  • Analyzing and measuring the effectiveness of internal communication efforts using metrics and analytics tools
  • Facilitating two-way communication using question-and-answer forums and other channels to ensure that employees have opportunities to ask questions, provide feedback, and engage with leadership
  • Staying up to date with industry developments and best practices in internal communication and employee engagement

Communication Plan Support:

  • Receiving all project requisitions throughout the year and staging projects according to the procedure, refining timelines and expectations with the client
  • Working with stakeholders and the production team to build templates for efficiency
  • Enhancing communication processes and efficiencies organization-wide and department specific
  • Regulating and tracking all agency projects focusing on resource management, project triage, addressing scheduling conflicts, and project prioritization
  • Setting objectives and key result (OKRs) for work quality, creativity, and on-time project delivery of work assigned
  • Developing and maintaining a solid foundation for efficient project flow and process, from initial request to scoping, resource planning, and allocation
  • Leading status meetings to schedule forecasted work based on estimates and resource allocation needs
  • Being responsible for project efficiency, reviewing estimated vs. allocated vs. actual hours, and identifying discrepancies to increase agency estimating accuracy

Department Engagement:

  • Monitoring and educating the team on OKRs and helping them understand how their work impacts those metrics
  • Providing input and direction for the annual budget process for the department
  • Ensuring compliance with policies related to the organization's communication efforts
  • Participating in professional development opportunities to stay current on industry trends and best practices.

Stakeholder Support:

  • Establishing high-trust relationships with internal YFC stakeholders and offering timely, proactive, and reactive communication
  • Working with stakeholders to understand their needs and desired outcomes and developing strategies to achieve them

Communication Calendar Facilitation:

  • Working with the supervisor to build and execute an enhanced YFC Communication strategy
  • Receiving Communication requisitions throughout the year and stage into an executable Communication Calendar, refining timelines, and expectations with stakeholders

Support of the National Service Center and Strategic Plan: 

  • Lead or contribute to matrixed work as assigned 
  • Abide all deadlines and procedures 
  • Complete routine tasks (task list documents, use of systems, performance review, budget processes etc.) 

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel. As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.

Additionally, YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

Fundraising Responsibilities:

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Skills:

Willing to demonstrate and/or possesses the following:  

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and tools 
  • Experience with content management systems and other digital tools 
  • Familiarity with marketing and public relations principles and best practices 
  • Ability to analyze data and use metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams 
  • Creativity and ability to think strategically. 
  • Experience in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) 
  • Experience creating visually appealing and effective design elements, such as graphics, infographics, and presentations 
  • Knowledge of email marketing best practices and experience using email marketing tools, such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact 
  • Experience creating and managing email campaigns, including designing templates, segmenting lists, and analyzing results 
  • Familiarity with data list management systems and tools, such as CRM platforms or email marketing databases 
  • Ability to maintain and organize large lists of contacts and data accurately and efficiently 
  • Experience with HTML and web design is a plus

  • Excellent writer able to draft nuanced communications on a variety of topics

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • BA Degree in Business, Communications or Marketing preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered.
