Position Summary

The Lead of the Communications Department will successfully facilitate effective communication and collaboration across the YFC movement by providing strategic leadership that fosters vision, alignment, and transparency. This position cares for, develops, and leads the Communications Department towards their desired organizational outcomes by modeling Christ-centered leadership, listening well, and serving and executing with precision, excellence, and humility. 

Essential Functions:

Communication Leadership

 

Communication Team Leadership

  • Supervise communication department staff and provide direction in objectives and key results.
  • Provide for the spiritual and personal care and professional development of departmental staff.
  • Delegate tactical operations to team as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate feedback loop between communication team, executive leadership, and stakeholders.

Communications Execution

  • Align department activities around advanced planning to position the communication department in a proactive posture anticipating organizational needs.
  • Champion and maintain the YFC Annual Calendar.
  • Execute movement-wide webinars and National Service Center Team Huddles
  • YFC USA and National Newsletters
  • Incorporate Change Management philosophy into all communication strategies.
  • Ensure communications achieve intended as defined by stakeholder.
  • Coordinate utilization of all internal communications channels in coordinated plan that aligns with YFC USA communication calendar.
  • Provide oversight with respect to internal communications tech stack utilization, including email, web, leader management system, annual calendar, as well as other digital/print channels as required.

Stakeholder Support

  • Ensure team operates with pro-active rhythms to anticipate communication needs from projects and departments.
  • Ensure team develops high-trust relationships with internal YFC stakeholders.
  • Ensure that Communication requests/ throughout the year are staged in executable Communication Plans, refining timelines and expectations with stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure team offers timely, pro-active and re-active communication to all internal stakeholders.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand needs and desired outcomes. Develop strategies and identify deliverables to accomplish outcomes.

Financial Leadership

The Communications Lead will be responsible to execute the budget for the campaigns within their assigned scope of work.

  • Detailed understanding of approved project/campaign budgets
  • Responsible to coordinate with team members and supervisor to ensure budget performance meets or exceeds expectations
  • Proactively work with outside vendors to ensure services promised/rendered are within budgeted range
  • In coordination with the Legal Department, solicit, negotiate and ensure adherence to all contracts and agreements with vendors.
  • Proactively adjust revenues and expenses to ensure net objectives are upheld without impacts to quality.

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth For Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth For Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

 

As an employee of Youth For Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.

Additionally, YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA. 

Fundraising Responsibilities:

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC/USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.

Knowledge & Skills

Willing to demonstrate and/or possesses the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communicator who can draft nuanced communications on a variety of topics.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including ability to work with people in all areas of the organization; builds and maintains highly effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain a high-level of responsiveness to the team and to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates project/program management and analytical skills.
  • Preferred knowledge and experience in graphic design (Canva, Adobe), email marketing automation (Sharpspring or similar), Microsoft Office Suite, Vimeo, and CRM (Salesforce).
  • Ability to humbly serve and honor others even in difficult situations with prayer, consistency, transparency, and resilience. (Enduring Humility).

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • BA Degree in Business, Communications or Marketing preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered.
