Position Summary

Position Summary

The W.E.R.X. Program Manager is responsible for developing and managing the New Way Youth Business Development Program; a youth employment readiness and job skills program. The WERX Program is an exciting new approach to youth ministry that will incorporate a paid work experience program with entrepreneurial training. Both will be accomplished within Youth for Christ’s two social enterprises, Taste of Heaven and New Way Thrift Store. 

Essential Functions

Program Coordination:

  • Develop strategies to recruit youth to the program from local high schools and YFC ministry sites.
  • Oversee a group of up to 36 youth and serve as a job coach for youth interns in the program, holding critical communications as needed.
  • Understand and employ workplace safety procedures and ensure students follow safety procedures in the workplace.
  • Identify strengths and deficiencies that each student is experiencing in the areas of professional work behavior, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking, and develop ways to help the students enhance their strengths and correct the deficiencies.
  • Assist students in establishing an appropriate working relationship with co-workers and supervisors at the work site.
  • Coordinate with site managers to monitor attendance and behavior of students to ensure progress toward measurable job readiness goals.
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly classroom training on entrepreneurial principles.
  • Develop and oversee relationships with local business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Research and write grants associated with the WERX, as well as other fundraising tasks as assigned.
  • Develop training materials, manuals, procedures, and visual aids to effectively achieve program goals.
  • Facilitate supportive services and coaching for youth in hygiene standards, appropriate dress, and work ethic.
  • Process documentation needed for program payroll distribution.
  • Participate in tracking and reporting of data.
  • Assemble, empower, and work with a team of volunteers from local churches and businesses. 
  • Implement special projects, as assigned.

Communication:

  • Proficient at business writing and electronic communication protocols.
  • Collects content from staff, volunteers, and youth, e.g. quotes, stories, photos, and footage, on an ongoing basis to contribute to monthly or quarterly communications.
  • Contributes to social media posts on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Implements communication strategies and personally follows up, as advised and equipped by the Development Director.
  • Assists in writing monthly receipt letters and partner letters.

Spiritual Responsibilities:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion, and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Model empathy, humility, and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression.

  • Must own a vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Credentials Required and Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in a related field preferred
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in employment readiness and/or business management
  • Must feel a calling to work with youth
  • Must have a good record in working with children and youth; cannot be on the CPS Registry or the Sex Offender Registry
