Position Summary

To develop and lead outreach ministry in the Akron community. This position focuses on reaching 11-19-year-olds with the Gospel through Christ-sharing relationships, the development, and empowerment of a team of volunteer ministry leaders and student leaders, along with the implementation of YFC ministry processes, and the creation of fruitful and sustainable Campus Life High School ministry.

  • Implement YFC’s Ministry Essentials
  • Meet with kids in the community and the high school ministry site, develop partnerships in the community, and pray for kids and communities, all to meet the goals of the ministry.
  • Recruit and Develop Volunteer Ministry Leaders
  • Develop a team of leaders that join in developing Christ-sharing relationships with lost youth at the ministry site and in the community.

Campus Life Model

Campus Life leaders come alongside students right where they are and help them as they wrestle with critical issues. Additionally, our leaders seek to cultivate moments of connection and community for our students. Leaders help young people create and maintain a Christ-centered life that provides balance mentally, physically, spiritually, and socially. We seek to help young people navigate the pivotal years of high school, uncovering God’s story of hope in their lives.

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to prayer and the Word of God, passion for sharing the love of Christ, and commitment to social involvement.

  • Called to reach lost young people, and a love and passion for them
  • Active in a local church, prayer life, abiding relationship with Jesus
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, good standing in your community
  • Communicative, good relational skills, strong leadership, and organizational skills
  • Works well with a team and can lead a team, but also independent
  • Pass the YFC background check and sign and agree with the YFC Life of a Leader

Essential Functions

Ministry Health (5 hrs/wk)

  • Build ministry site/team culture that embodies YFC ministry essentials
  • Lead monthly ministry team meetings and ministry communication to unify team and ministry efforts
  • Supervise the optimal # of volunteer ministry and student leaders
  • Develop ministry site and team goals
  • Learn and lead YFC ministry processes that coordinate healthy ministry
  • Keep the Regional and Ministry Directors aware of ministry health, progress, and challenges
  • Oversee ministry-oriented Trips, Camps, and Events
  • Model ministry by remaining involved with teens
  • Develop a missional community within a local Community Support Team and student leaders investigate potential ministry possibilities within Rock Rapids or surrounding communities
  • Develop partnerships with churches and donors
  • Lead the process of identifying new volunteers and student leaders 

Personal Growth (4 hrs/wk)

  • Abide in Jesus
  • Book reading for personal and spiritual development
  • Attend YFC staff training (3-4 / yr) and conferences (1 / yr)
  • Complete the YFC Staff Training Blueprint

Leadership Development (2 hrs/wk)

  • Build a culture of leadership development within the ministry site, volunteer leaders, and Community Support Team
  • Oversee the investment of time into raising up young student leaders

Administration (4 hrs/wk)

  • Provide and input regular weekly/monthly info on the ministry site, and student and volunteer reports in proper formats for Regional Director
  • Schedule weekly/monthly time for planning meetings, activities, training, and events
  • Provide writing articles for social media and/or quarterly chapter newsletters as requested

Community Relations (2 hrs/wk)

  • Promote YFC and City Life within the community
  • Develop relationships with students, parents, school administrators, and teachers, churches, and businesses

Ministry Growth (3 hrs/wk)

  • Develop a long-term vision for the ministry in coordination with the Regional and Ministry Directors

Spiritual Responsibilities

Because the overriding religious purpose and mission of Youth for Christ USA is to communicate and introduce the Gospel of Jesus Christ to young people and their families, and in that regard to make, educate and encourage life-long disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is very important that you as an employee in the movement of Youth for Christ be recognized as an associate minister of the Gospel.

As an employee of Youth for Christ and an associate minister of the Gospel, YFC expects all employees to:

  • Seek God’s guidance and wisdom, through prayer and meditation, for the organization as a whole as well as for specific ministry initiatives.
  • Participate and lead regular times of prayer, devotion and worship as a regular aspect of your role within YFC.
  • Teach and preach from the Holy Bible at YFC staff meetings, conferences, camps and events.
  • Model empathy, humility and care for all people. This includes promoting equity and inclusion in word and in the practice of faith expression. YFC employees will have an opportunity to be commissioned or licensed as a minister of the Gospel through the established Youth for Christ process, and/or ordained by an outside body recognized by Youth for Christ USA.

The Ministry Site Director is a position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, and strong communication skills. S/he must embrace and build a team that embodies YFC’s Cultural Attributes: Christ-centered, enduring humility, relentless trust, courageous faithfulness, joyful camaraderie, and kingdom inspired diversity. S/he will seek to implement relational ministry actions to develop Authentic Christ-Sharing Relationships with young people within the context of their YFC ministry model.

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

  • Post High School education preferred
  • 1-3 years of youth ministry or equivalent experience (i.e. volunteer or staff, leading college, club, work, or a sports team experience
  • Experience and ability to work on a team and independently

Fundraising Responsibilities

All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts. The Regional Director may attach a minimum fundraising goal to certain projects, activities, departments, or individuals.

Budget Responsibility

This position works with the Regional Director to develop and oversee proper funding of the ministry.

Physical Requirements

  • Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position up to 25% of the time, occasionally move about to access files or office equipment, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as hand-held devices, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of lifting to 25-50 lbs. may be required
  • Good manual dexterity is required for the use of computers, mobile devices, and other productivity technologies
  • The ability to communicate with others especially co-workers is crucial
  • Regular use of the telephone and email for communication
  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges are essential for conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents
  • The job is performed indoors and outdoors in traditional settings

Travel Requirements

  • 25% of travel time is expected for the position, where the travel occurs, such as locally or in the area. Very occasional travel is overnight for a YFC event or camp.

  • Ministry site volunteer leaders and Community Support Team
