The Juvenile Justice Ministry Des Moines Aftercare Coordinator is a professional position that requires spiritual and organizational leadership skills, the ability to work with and through other people, communication skills, a heart for reaching young people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the ability to minister to youth in evangelism and discipleship within the context of YFC methodology. They also need to demonstrate commitment to Youth for Christ Statement of Faith, as outlined in the Personnel Policy.
Essential Job Functions and Duties (Estimated % of Time)
Widespread Prayer (5%) We deliberately engage lots of Christians to intercede on behalf of the ministry site.
- Ensure that this value strategically permeates all values, areas, and actions of your daily ministry
- Develop a prayer team and communicate to them on a regular basis the needs of the ministry
- Devote yourself to pray for lost teens
Loving Relationships (40%) We consistently pursue lost kids & engage them in life-long relationships with Jesus
- In facilities, meet with students to build relationships and share the gospel, make disciples, help young people prepare to reenter the community
- Work with the members of our JJM team to carry out, evaluate, and improve our Aftercare systems and structures in order to serve students well
- Once young people are back in the community, matching them with a mentor, integrating them into the local church, and connecting them to resources, organizations, or job opportunities
- Express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities in each meeting according to the Developmental Relationships Framework by Search Institute
Faithful Bible Teaching (10%) We accurately handle Biblical truth, regularly coaching kids to apply it in their lives.
- Competent preparation and relevant presentation presentation of the Word of God in the various ministry settings within JJM
Collaborative Community Strategy (10%) We intentionally work together with local churches, agencies and other partners to provide sustainable youth and family ministry.
- Seek out and develop other like-minded organizations to partner with in this ministry (Churches, Businesses, Non-profits, etc.) for the aim of finding volunteer leaders to do the work of the ministry, to integrate young people into the church, and connect them to community resources or jobs
- Collaborate with family, Juvenile Court Officers, Social Workers, Counselors, Probation Officers, etc. to ensure holistic care for young people in our ministry
- Increase a youth’s awareness of educational, cultural, recreational, career opportunities and be introduced to new community (i.e., the church)
Adults Who Empower (15%) We strategically develop leaders to reach young people from every people group.
- Recruit, screen, and onboard new volunteer leaders
- Build and lead teams of Christian adults who are committed to investing in the relational ministry process with lost teens
- Initially and regularly equip and train your volunteer team, whether directly or indirectly, to ensure they are empowered to carry their role in the context of the Juvenile Justice System
Additional Duties (20%)
- Complete weekly/monthly reporting requirements
- Weekly Ministry Reports
- Weekly staff meetings (As needed)
- Monthly Board/Impact reports
- Bi-weekly meetings with your supervisor
- Bi-Annual Evaluations
- Complete training assignments/credentialing (as required)
- Participate in community fundraising events (when appropriate)
- Fundraise and maintain an amount equal to 33% of salary and ministry budget
- Steward relationships with donors to care for, inform, and engage them in the ministry

Credentials Required & Preferred Education

Fundraising Responsibilities
All YFC employees are expected to regularly and actively participate in faithful activities that advance the stewardship functions of YFC USA. These activities will include—but are not limited to— extending invitations to fund raising events, recruiting personal circle of influence/YFC donor contacts, sending letters, handwritten notes, personal calls, and personally ministering to donor contacts.
